Currently Indiana law prohibits jurors being told whether there is insurance coverage in a case. It also puts a cap on how
responsible Indiana government should be for injuring its citizens, so the government can construct unsafe roads or fail to
inspect amusement rides and not be held responsible to the same extent you or I would be. The government further seeks to
shield itself from responsibility by only giving citizens six months to file a claim against the government from the date
of injury.
Federal law affects how much company health insurance plans must be reimbursed, allowing companies
to assert they should get more of some settlements or verdicts than the permanently injured person! Not having any health
insurance is a real problem for many people and is something that needs action by our state and federal legislators.
